Some preferences (food, cultural) dismissed as matter of taste. At the same time other differences emphasised and understood as crucial, defining elements of the self unalterable pieces of inner truth. Sex, gender and sexuality are differences that we think make a difference. We have specific ideas about how they will all line up together. Whenever/ however lines are cross, an individual in a world that endorses this logic is. Heteronormativity: when sex/ gender/ sexuality binaries are taken for granted and/ or privileged as the norm. Heterosexism: systems of though/ behaviour that reinforce sex/ gender/ sexuality binaries thereby reinforcing sexist and limiting ideas about women (or vice versa) Different in a way that makes a difference. Transgression & difference frequently implicated in instances of violence. Key element in how those instances of violence become interpreted & Anti-homophobic (e. g. gay liberation movement), anti-heteronormative, sex-positive, challenging gender binaries, questioning feminist politics based around stable categories of social recognition.
