Document Summary

Coronary arteries (origin, course and main branches, and the functional consequences of their obstruction) No real way to tell where ascending aorta ends and where aortic arch begins. Aortic arch: at the level of the manubrial-sternal junction arches superiorly, posteriorly and to the left arches anterior and over the bifurcation of the trachea archers over the left lung root (purple) Descending (thoracic) aorta posterior to the left lung root. Initially to left of vertebral column, then approaches midline. Two main branches pass around the pulmonary trunk(= pulmonary artery) Right coronary artery: goes between right side of pulmonary trunk and the right atrial appendage. Blockage of right coronary artery impacts heart conduction system. Circumflexes at inferior border of heart, and runs along posterior av groove, then anastomoses with the lca. Left coronary artery: goes behind and around left side of pulmonary trunk and left atrial appendage.
