ANAT30008 Lecture Notes - Lecture 25: Aryepiglottic Fold, Vestibular Fold, Vocal Folds
Document Summary
Larynx is between epiglottis and c6/lower border of cricoid cartilage. System of cartilages supported by bone that has a very distinct 3d shape (normally closed at bottom, but open at top to allow for continuation between upper and lower airways) Hyoid bone (superiorly) is connected to thyroid cartilage which has an anterior prominence (adam"s apple/lamina) with horns posterolaterally (superior and inferior) and a posterior de ciency. Cricoid cartilage is a ring sitting inferior to thyroid cartilage with a hollow core trachea. There are two movements of the arytenoid cartilage swivelling on transverse plane + sliding towards each other in midline. These movements have action on vocal ligaments phonation. Epiglottic cartilage sits directly posterior to the tongue bolus of food pushes epiglottis down to prevent food from entering airways. Note: membrane run between structures indicated in their name (duh) Have attachment to vocal processes of arytenoid cartilages (anteriorly) and the angle of the thyroid cartilage (posteriorly)
