ANAT20006 Lecture Notes - Lecture 15: Shoulder Joint, Open Hand, Supinator Muscle
LECTURE 15
UPPER LIMBS (2) MUSCLES & MOVEMENT
•(1) Retraction is standing up straight, protraction is hunching forward and bringing girdle
forward.
•Elevating is bringing girdle up, and depressing is bringing it down. And upwards and downwards
rotation.
•Shoulder is ball and socket so will get movement in 3 planes.
•Elbow joint is hinge type synovial so movement in 1 plane: elbow
flexion and extension. Radioulnar joints have rotation, supination and
pronation. The wrist has flexion and extension and adduction
(outwards) and abduction (inwards). ]

ANAT20006 - HUMAN STRUCTURE & FUNCTION
•(3) fingers: flexion (fist) and extension (open hand). Abduction (fingers apart) and adduction
(fingers together). Thumb movements occur at 90 degrees to movement of other digits.
FASCIA
•(4) fascia: muscles are in compartments surrounded by fascia. Fascia allows muscles to glide. The
interosseus membrane is an example. Aponeurosis is what our skin adheres to. Deep fascia can be
specialised for different functions:
