EDUC262 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Handicapping
Document Summary
Educ262 week 12 tutorial understanding self and other. Can describe basic personality features in self/others. Drops in self esteem (for many students) Other-person perceptions (what peers think) become an obsession. Actions or choices that provide an excuse for possible/anticipated failure (e. g. some form of low effort, which means that low ability will not be blamed) Common example is blaming home life continuously for not completing homework. Might think that they did something wrong or angered the other person. Foster self esteem by promoting self-kindness, growth mindsets, and learning goals. A student may hinder their own progress in order to protect their self esteem. In their mind, it is better to be seen failing because of slackness than low ability.
