PSYC104 Lecture Notes - Lecture 4: Tp63, Literature Review, Dialectic
Document Summary
Aspects of research design: depends on the state of knowledge in the area; more developed areas more refined designed, must be rigorous -> meaning as thorough and systematic as possible. Provides the structure for the research: good design requires that it be, based in theory, situationally appropriate, feasible, you can implement it, redundant, allows for data point losses, efficient, least demand on resources. Steps in rq generalisation: start with a general topic that the researcher finds interesting. This may have to be modified if the general question of interest is either too broad or has some other problem. Sources of rqs include [see punch, 2005, p33: personal experience, curiosity about something reported in the media, an issue arising from the researcher"s scholarly pursuits e. g. reading, teaching, professional experience, review the existing literature. This can be difficult for areas that have not had much research conducted in them: the researcher may write a question!!
