What is a constitution: a written or unwritten set of rules/laws that provide an overarching framework within which national states, governments and citizens pursue their respective goals. Most states, including australia, have written constitutions, but some states (uk, new zealand) have unwritten constitutions based on constitutional conventions and legal precedent: constitution- constitutional conventions, political and social conventions inside a country. Uk doesn"t have a written constitution like aus or usa but it has unwritten constitution based on constitutional conventions and legal precedent. Background to the constitution: during the latter part of this period, there were growing voices talking up the benefits of some sort of political union. American systems constitutional monarchy and parliamentary government, combined with federalism and a written constitution: american federalism and english parliamentary democracy- washminster, parliamentary system, executive would form in legislature- australian legislature and executive sit in same parliament.
