It is a narrow view of the novel, and sets a precedent from which notions of the novel can be heavily challenged: write your own definition of a novel! A written text which possesses a structured narrative and cannot be read in one sitting it is a story with a conscience, always seeming to be focalised through a central or multiple characters. Contains some kind of narrative surrounding a central or multiple characters. Reveals a story which is focalised emotionally and sentimental through one or many characters. Is of some length whether a single, long-drawn out narrative or a collection of short stories. Genre is the lens through which we read, understand and make meaning from a text. I had read northanger abbey with a close study on her satirical approach of gothic literature. Had both read p+p and watched bbc"s 1995 tv show. Knew her to be feminist, satirical, sassy and ironic revealed the nature of bourgeois.
