E. g. religious discourses, scientific discourses, medical discourses etc. Discourses construct the world + the things in it in discipline-specific ways. These discourses have rules and regulations that control what can and cannot be said. They are social practices (systems of power/knowledge) in which we engage; they are like scripts" we perform (consciously + unconsciously) . They all produce their own truths in a certain area of time. It is in discourse that knowledge and power are joined together (foucault) Power is everywhere" and comes from everywhere". Each society has it"s general politics of truth". The types of discourse it accepts and makes function as true. They regulate knowledge such that certain ideas appear true: truth as affect". Ways of knowing, ways of being, are always open to challenge, and are always changing.
