In general information is reliable in academic terms if it is written for an academic or a professional audience. Information in a professional website such as brw. com or a government website may also be considered reliable. In the natural sciences and some of the social sciences, laboratory experiments are important. Surveys, observations are also widely used in social sciences. Studied that are carried out by people or organisations who have an interest in the results are not considered to be reliable sources of information. It is important to be sure that the information being presented has a research purpose rather than an advertising purpose.
