The Urinary system
Kidney function:
- Excretion blood is filtered through the kidneys where urine is formed.
- Regulation of blood volume and pressure control of extracellular fluid of the body by producing small
amounts of concentrated urine or large amounts of dilute.
- Regulation of solute concentration in the blood major ion concentrations e.g. Ca2+
- Regulation of pH levels in extracellular fluids Secretion of H+ to maintain correct acidity.
- Regulations of red blood cell synthesis kideys serete erythropoieti to aufature RBC’s.
- Regulation of Vitamin D synthesis needed for calcium reabsorption.
Lie on either side of the spinal column posterior on the abdominal wall. The liver Is above the right kidney so it
sits lower than the left.
Layers around the kidney
- Renal capsule layer of fibrous connective tissue
- Adipose tissue
- Renal fascia layer of connective tissue
- Adipose tissue
Anatomy
Hilum opening for the renal
artery, nerves, veins and ureters.
Renal sinus cavity opens after
the hilum filled with adipose and
connective tissue.
Renal pyramids base from the
cortex and medulla.
Renal papillae point of the
pyramids.
