Document Summary

Introduction: exercise is generally safe and effective for cancer clients, exercise prescription for cancer client"s can be challenging as every cancer experience is different: Age, health status, comorbidities, physical condition, cancer type, stage, treatments received, side- effects, distress and emotional needs: all cancer clients have individualised exercise needs, optimal exercise guidelines to enhance cancer health outcomes for individual cases is unknown. Improve physical conditioning and functioning: achieve/maintain healthy bmi (18. 5-20 kg/m 2), decrease the risk of cardiovascular disease, maintain bone health, diminish short and long-term side effects associated with treatment/enhance recovery, decrease the risk of cancer recurrence/increase survival. General guidelines for exercise prescription: current consensus: >150 min/wk of moderate intensity or >75 mins/wk of vigorous intensity activity (or equivalent combination) plus 2 days/wk of resistance training, avoid physical inactivity across all stages of the cancer journey. Some exercise is better than none, more is better than less: be as physically activity as abilities and conditions allow.
