Document Summary
Week 10 - lies and more lies statistics. Statistics - are a set of tools and techniques used for describing, organising and interpreting information or data. 1. descriptive statistics - organise and describe a set of data and results (describe what results have been collected) descriptor statistics - just describe the samples related to the participants in the study. Just has the values but doesn"t necessarily say if its a meaningful di erence or if its just by chance. Measures of variability the spread of dispersion of scores around the mean range - high score minus low score. Variance - is a measure of spread of a set of scores standard deviation (most common) - is the variability of set of scores - e. g di erence in the age group. Typically report the mean and the standard deviation together to describe a distribution. Descriptive statistics used to report characteristics of study participants e. g height, weight etc.
