Stereotype: positive or negative attitude towards others based on their membership with a particular group. A cognitive representation of others base on the groups that they interact with. Not always correct but is generally quite fixed. Prejudice: a negative attitude towards others based on their group membership Based of negative stereotypes so is often biased and incorrect. Discrimination: treating people in an unfair was based on their group membership. If we change the intergroup relationship maybe we can change the nature of the stereotype: ran a summer campin usa, all middle-class kids. 12 years old: separated into two groups. Just a bunch of kids thrown together: stage 1: build group cohesion (unaware of other grou, stage 2: introduce the other group competitive goals (introduce competitive games etc, stage 3: non-competitive contact, stage 4: common interdependent goals. Stage 1: let them play games together in which the group must co-operate, separate from the other group.
