Culture:
The aggregate of beliefs, attitudes, values, assumptions, and ways
of thinking that is shared by members of an organisation and taught
to new members
Each organisation has unique culture, distinguished by its:
o Beliefs
o Philosophy
o Approaches to decision making and problem solving
Based on the values and principles displayed by leaders
Has its own stories and myths
Determines how to respond to threats and opportunities in both the
external and internal environment
Deeply rooted:
o Core essence of organisation
o Often first expounded by founder
Weak:
o Little agreement on values, beliefs, and norms of member
behaviour
o Can work against strategy implementation
o No deeply felt sense of identification with the organisation
o Culture has little meaning to employees and managers
Strong:
o Good for the bottom line
o Clear, explicit set of principles and values
