Aims of the unit
- To offer a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures,
history and contemporary issues.
- To build an understanding of how the past informs and creates the present.
- To explore how the history we choose to tell can broaden and enhance, or narrow
and limit, our perspectives on the present.
- To explore the diversity of Indigenous Australia and Indigenous Australian
experiences.

- What, in your view, are the best methods/attitudes for good historical practice? (or,
how can we do the best history?)

o Allowing unbiased perspective.
o Be open minded/ willing to be wrong.
o Be prepared to change your mind.

o Does it contribute to the way we live now?

o Is it for Australian peoples to understand who they are in the present?
