BU414 Chapter Notes - Chapter 11: Debriefing, Crisis Management
Document Summary
Emergency a sudden, generally unexpected occurrence or set of circumstances demanding immediate action. We are concerned with emergencies that either cause or threaten to cause the loss of, or damage to, life or property. Emergencies can be naturally occurring or caused by humans. True emergency planning begins long before the onset of any emergency and continues long afterwards. Emergency planning involves anticipating and planning for emergencies, putting those plans into action as needed, and then (1) getting back to work and (2) refining plans in light of new learning. Management commitment to preparedness seems to be a critical determinant of how organizations prepare for emergencies. Hr has a major role to play in developing and implementing emergency plans. An emergency plan needs to consider issues at the precontact, contact and postcontact stages of any emergency. Issues at the precontact stage includes assessing hazards and planning potential responses.
