Document Summary

Visualizations were not only used in devotional worship. The aim of meditation was to get a double identification: meditation = sadhana. That of a meditator with the buddha/divinity being visualized. That of a buddha/divinity with the visualizing meditator. These two realizations occurred together, but they might be thought of as reflecting the processes of the tantric path: the quest for wisdom and the expression of compassion. The follow sadhana is described by a tibetan monk named pema karpo. In this sadhana, there are processes of identification with the divinity. Overall, the meditation is a visionary endeavor (attempt) that is fast paced, constantly changing, and mixes down-to-earth images syllables, sounds, abstract doctrines, body parts, colors, buddhas, bodhisattvas, divinities, etc. What is important in all of this: verbal elements of meditiation, mental elements of meditation. Sadhana involves the coordination of the mind, body, and speech.
