Art of facilitating the performance, learning, and development of another. Individual performance improvements translates to improvements in the effectiveness and efficiency of the organization. Can resolve inappropriate behaviors, help employee learn new skills, and encourage them to develop new capabilities to accept responsibilities. Can also correct poor management behavior (micro-managing, not listening, criticizing faults, or emotional overreaction) Encourage growth by helping individuals accept more responsibilities. Coaching process can help determine which skills are more important in each employee"s job and how to develop them appropriately. Coach"s role is to actively listen, observe, question, and provide feedback. Not to criticize or tell employee exactly what to do, but rather give feedback and time for the person to change improve their performance. Avoid negative judgements, threatening comments, and ultimatums about employee"s behavior.
