A. What were the researchers investigating?
What makes a hacker? Cybersecurity and Control of the internet; The hacker is central to many
of the political, social and economic issues affecting the net (such as crime; espionage; power);
BUT ARE THEY THE MOST VULNERABLE?
B. How did they investigate it?
The Hackers Profiling Project in Turnin, Italy is doing research in the characterization, abilities
and socialization of hackers but it lacks funding. But were we lack most is human intelligence.
Comparing 6 different CHARACTERS OF cyber-criminals
C. What did the researchers find?
They found that the following subjects had similar characteristics
1. - learned hacking skills in their early to mid-teens
2. - all but 2 were found that they developed their hacking skills their moral compass had
not been fully developed
3. - they all demonstrated advanced ability in math and science
4. - when he discussed this with psychologist Simon Baron-Cohen- professor: that certain
disabilities such as Aspberger’s or Autism, can manifest itself in the hacking and
computing world.
IMPORTANT: We should not be throwing these so called ‘monsters’ in jail because they have
lost their way socially or been duped. Instead we should engage and be offering guidance to
these young because they are a remarkable breed. And if we rely solely on the criminal justice
system and the threat of punitive sentencing, we will be nurturing a monster we cannot tame.

B. How did they investigate it? Talking to some of the other inmates that shared the
same abusive environments.
C. What did the researchers find? They came from the same abusive environments but
the system is designed to warehouse rather than to rehabilitate. Embrace a more empathetic
