“We are observing wasted heat in everyday life for example in Pakistan heavy generated are installed, during their supply of electricity an excessive amount of wasted heat is produced in its surrounding, similarly when we drive a vehicle a heat is available in the surrounding of engine of that vehicle, we can also see many more such examples of wastage of heat. This heat is effecting the environment of Pakistan badly.

Is it conceivable to convert this wasted heat into some useful work/energy/electricity or not. If yes how? If no why?”

 

 

During 4 hours one winter afternoon, when the outside temperaturewas 11° C, a house heated by electricity was kept at 24° C with theexpenditure of 58 kwh (kilowatt·hours) of electric energy.

(a) What was the average energy leakage in joules per second(watts) through the walls of the house to the environment (theoutside air and ground)?

(b) The rate at which energy is transferred between two systems dueto a temperature difference is often proportional to theirtemperature difference. Assuming this to hold in this case, if thehouse temperature had been kept at 27° C (80.6° F), how many kwh ofelectricity would have been consumed?

The spherical dome of a Van de Graaff generator can be raised to amaximum potential of 580 kV; then additional charge leaks off insparks, by producing dielectric breakdown of the surrounding dryair.

(a) Determine the charge on the dome.
(b) What is the radius of the dome?

A coil with 160 turns, a radius of 5.0cm , and a resistance of12ohms surrounds a solenoid with 220 turns/cm and a radius of 4.3cm; see the figure. The current in the solenoid changes at a constantrate from 0 to 1.7A in 0.13s .
