Background and context

A nutrient is a substance in food that performs a physiological function in the body. Nutrients provide us with energy, promote growth and development by supplying the material for cellular structures, and regulate cellular metabolism. They are also involved in homeostasis. 
Macronutrients include Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats(lipids).
Micronutrients include Vitamins and Minerals.
Water is also considered as a different class of nutrients due to its importance.
