Background and context

The loss of a cell wall, membrane proliferation, the evolution of a cytoskeleton, and the acquisition and evolution of organelles were all involved in the evolution of the first eukaryotes from primordial prokaryotes. The energy mechanism of eukaryotic cells appears to have originated in bacteria, but nuclear eukaryotic genes appear to have originated in Archaea.
