Background and context

Viruses differ in terms of structure, mode of replication, host, and target cells. Viruses are non-cellular as well as parasitic and have no internal organs, metabolic processes, or plasma membranes. Virions may contain either DNA or RNA, an outer layer of proteins, or sometimes an outer membrane composed of a phospholipid membrane, and is derived from the host cell and proteins.
