Background and context

Mitosis is the cell division in which a single cell divides into 2 new daughter cells with an equal number of chromosomes as that of the parent cell. Before the nucleus divides, the nuclear contents double up so that when they divide, the nuclear components would be equally distributed within the 2 new cells.
