Background and context

The greenhouse gases in the atmosphere trap heat and warm the earth's surface and this effect is known as the greenhouse effect. Carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, and water vapor (all of which exist naturally) are the principal greenhouse gases, and fluorinated gases (which are synthetic).
