Background and context
Eukaryotic genes contain introns and exons. Exons are the coding sequences while introns are the non-coding sequences that get removed during the processing of mRNA (messenger ribonucleic acid). This process of removal of introns or the intervening sequences is called splicing. It is with the help of a protein complex known as spliceosomes.
