Prokaryotes are diverse organisms. They use different nutrients from the environment to obtain energy. The chemical process that occurs within the cell to draw energy is called metabolism. The nutrients are utilized by prokaryotic cells to generate ATP for cellular activities. They can use toxic material, inorganic substances for metabolism. For their diverse metabolic habits, they can thrive in every kind of habitat.
