Background and context
Some traits are controlled by the expression of several different genes. When two or more genes affect a particular phenotype, it is called gene interaction. The Mendelian dihybrid ratio is 9:3:3:1. Any type of gene interaction that results in modification of this dihybrid ratio in the F2 generation is called epistasis.
