Background and context
The sequence of nucleotides is important as the production of various proteins is dependent on this sequencing of nucleotides on DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid). Mutations in DNA affect the sequencing of nucleotides in numerous ways due to which the expression of genes changes. Carcinogens are those substances that can give rise to cancerous cells in the body by mutating the genome.
