Background and context

Hardy–Weinberg equilibrium, model, theory, or rule are all names for the Hardy–Weinberg principle. In the absence of evolutionary factors, the frequencies of allele and genotype in a population will remain constant from generation to generation, which is why it is sometimes referred to as neutral equilibrium.
