Background and context

Anthropoids are the primates which means 'forecast in rank'. They are the highly evolved mammals. They have a large rounded cranium. They have forwardly directed eyes with binocular vision and opposite thumb (thumb coming opposite to index finger as when we hold a pen). They have a single pair of thoracic teats and usually produce a single young one at a time. The young one gets a good deal of care and affection from the mother. They are omnivorous and gregarious. There are other types of primates - prosimians and simians.
