Background and context

Gametogenesis is the process by which male and female gametes are formed. It occurs by meiosis. So, half of the chromosomes from the father and another half of the chromosomes come from the mother in an offspring. The sperm generation in the testis of the male is called spermatogenesis and the production of the ovum is known as oogenesis. Spermatogenesis takes place in the seminiferous tubules. Spermatogenesis starts at the age of thirteen and ends in old age.
