Background and context

Cardiac output is the amount of blood pumped by the heart (left and right ventricles) in one minute. In mathematical terms, we can say that cardiac output denoted by CO is the product of stroke volume and heart rate:   

Peripheral resistance is the resistance which the blood vessels walls offer in order to allow the blood to flow in the circulatory system.
