Background and context

Nutrients are elements required by an organism for all its metabolic reactions. Plants need light, water, and about 20 elements for their biochemical reactions. These 20 elements are the essential nutrients used to synthesize complex biomolecules like carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids, and proteins for plant growth and nutrition. 
Essential nutrients are of two types; Macronutrients, required in large quantities like Carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, etc., and Micronutrients, required in small quantities like iron, zinc, potassium, magnesium, etc.
