Background and context
The homologous chromosomes remain intact without breaking of centromere during Meiosis I. The separation of the sister chromatids can take place only after the centromere breaks. This mainly occurs during Meiosis II. The sister chromatids are separated from each other only at that specific point of meiotic division.
