Background and context
Antibodies, also known as immunoglobulins, are proteins produced by plasma cells that have been separated from B lymphocytes. They cause humoral immunity to develop. The four polypeptide chains that make up an antibody molecule are the two identical heavy chains and the two identical light chains.
