Background and context

Photosystem II or P680 is the initiator complex that starts with the light-dependent reaction of photosynthesis. Photolysis of water is responsible for the activation of this complex and n the absence of it, the liberation of oxygen will not occur. The entire process of non-cyclic light reaction of photosynthesis will fall apart. Therefore, the byproduct of photolysis, which is the release of oxygen and electron will not occur.
