According to the question, the motion of a particle is plotted. Along the X-axis time   is shown and along the Y-axis the position of that particle is plotted.

We have to describe in words the motion plotted in the Fig. 2–32 in terms of velocity, acceleration.

Average velocity  of a particle is defined as the slope of the vs. graph, when the particle mover linearly with time.

For non-linear motion of a particle, the average velocity at a given point can be obtained as the slope of a line tangent to the vs. curve at that point.

The instantaneous acceleration   at any time is the slope of the tangent to the   vs.   curve at that time.

 

Here   is the change in velocity and is the change in time.
