The cell surface receptors are also known as the membrane receptors and transmembrane receptors. These are the receptors that remain embedded within the plasma membrane. These receptors interact with the ligand. The cell surface receptors have three domains, namely- the extracellular domain, transmembrane domain, and intracellular domain.
