Background and context

The secondary messengers can be defined as small molecules that can be just molecules or ions. The secondary messengers relay the information from the receptors to the effector proteins. The secondary messengers take the cellular information from the receptors present on the plasma membrane and pass it on to the effector protein present within the cell.
