Background and context

A nucleus is the most important organelle of a cell as it stores the genetic material of a cell and is responsible for protein synthesis. Each nucleus is enveloped by a double layered nuclear membrane called nuclear envelope. The outer and inner membranes of nuclear envelope are made of phospholipid layers. The nuclear membrane has several pores to facilitate transport of ions and molecules between cytoplasm and nucleoplasm.

An endomembrane system consists of organelles and membranes that are involved in packaging, modifying, and transport of proteins and lipids.
