Background and context

Vitamins are necessary substances that the body cannot produce on its own and must be obtained from nutrition. Vitamins also have a part in catalysis, which is the process by which enzymes speed up chemical reactions. Vitamins, on the other hand, must be converted to coenzymes in order to participate in catalytic reactions. These coenzymes retain their properties after catalysis, allowing them to be recycled and reused multiple times.
