Background and context

The myosin head is prepared to connect to the actin filament for a contraction cycle by ATP hydrolysis into ADP and inorganic phosphate. Actin is liberated from myosin with the help of ATP after the cross-bridge between actin and myosin is established. The myosin is then returned to its cocked position.
