Background and context
The transfer of oxygen can be separated into two types: convection transport and diffusion transport.
Convection is the flow of oxygen inside the circulation that occurs via bulk transport. This is an energetic activity that requires energy, which in this case comes from the heart's pumping. Diffusion, on either hand, depicts the passive flow of oxygen along a concentration gradient.
