Background and context

Eukaryotic cells have many membrane-bound organelles such as chloroplasts, mitochondria, nucleus, and endoplasmic reticulum. Each organelle follows the principle of the structure following function. Mitochondria are referred to as the powerhouse of a cell while chloroplasts are the food factory of a plant cell. Despite having some structural similarities between mitochondria and chloroplasts, they have different functions.
