Background and context

The electron transport chain (ETC) is the last step in cellular respiration. The product of cellular respiration after ETC is ATP (Adenosine triphosphate). ATP is formed when an inorganic phosphate combines with the adenosine diphosphate. This takes place within the electron transport chain where the electrons get transported through protein complexes.
