Background and context

Skeletal muscle when subjected to oxygen depletion, muscle contraction occurs under anaerobic conditions. This leads to a state of fermentation under an anaerobic condition where the muscle pH tends to become acidic. As a result of this fermentation, the muscle gets fatigued and may cause pain due to the deposition of acid.
