Background and context

A cell is a structural and functional unit of life. All living organisms are made of one or more different types of cells. Cells are very small in size, so we cannot view them with our naked eyes. Microscopes are instruments that can magnify an object and hence, they are used to observe cells and study them. There are different types of microscopes available today: light microscope, electron microscope, etc.

An electron microscope is better than a light microscope as it gives better resolution and magnification. While a light microscope can magnify an object times, an electron microscope can magnify cells up to times. Hence, it can be used to study cells in greater detail.
