Background and context
Cotyledons are the first leaves of the plant or in other words it can be said that they are the leaves of the seeds (seed leaves). The flowering plants are divided into two categories based on the presence of one or two cotyledons in their seed or embryo:
1) Monocots- 1 cotyledon
2) Dicots- 2 cotyledons
